finally! a home cooked meal!

The holidays, I love them, but it's such a busy time! We have been eating out all week, so yummy but eventually I crave for a home cooked meal...

Tonight, Hec made homemade black bean burgers, topped with cheddar cheese, spinach and chunky salsa, a side of tater tots, and a beer to wash it all down! It was so good! We are not the best of cooks, but have enjoyed learning with each other, and I have to say we are getting better!!!

Busy Week..

This week has been busy! Busy at work, busy at home!!! Made a princess crown for Luna, to go along with her indoor princess tent, put up the christmas tree, went to Monday night bowling with www.29-95.com, attempted to make stockings (big frustration), too much food at work, attempted to knit two late nights in a row without success!!!! AAAAh! Sorry no photos to post, but soon!! I'm staying in all weekend, have to work Sunday..BOOOO!!

The only thing I can post is this video that has been my guilty pleasure all week! I know its Lady Gaga, but it is a great video and who else can pull off Alexander McQueen Fall 09 Shoe collection!!!

I just want to take the time out to congratulate my husband, for finishing his 2nd semester of college. I know that it seems as if it will be a long road to the end, but there is an end, and we are here cheering you on!!!

Last Christmas..

Today, I was thinking back to last christmas, Husband and I had only been married for about a month. It seems like a year went by so quickly, and many great experiences were shared.

Last year, I couldn't help getting a bit teary-eyed when we exchanged gifts. I gave him a book of poems by Pablo Neruda. He gave me a mirror with day of the dead images around the borders. When I turned the mirror around, I found a poem attached to the back of it:

Here I love you
in the dark pines the wind disentangles itself
the moon glows like phosphorus on the vagrant waters
Days, all one kind, go chasing each other

The moon turns its clock work dream.

The biggest stars look at me with your eyes,
And as I love you, the pines in the wind
want to sing your name with their leaves of wire.

New Hobby

My Father is a tailor, and my sister has always shown an interest in it, I however never did. I leaned more towards photography, as the process of developing brought on a sense of patience in me, that I do not possess naturally.

Earlier this year, a friend and I took a class at Sew Crafty. I couldn't resist going, the way the place is decorated is just too cute to pass up!! I found that sewing also had the same effect as photography. In this current world of instant gratification, I find that indulging in the process of "making" is very satisfying. Check out cool sewing classes at: www.sewcraftyhouston.com

These next projects were not a creation of my own, when I find the links for the tutorial on the dress, and piggy purse pattern , I will post = )

Piggy coin purse, patterned enlarged, and we added straps...

T-shirt dress, made from hubby's old Frida shirt and black t-shirt, Luna loves it!!

Just me and mini Diana

My husband and I just celebrated our 1st anniversary, traditionally the gift to give is 'paper'. I received a Diana Mini, the paper part being the printed photos, love it!

Here is my first run with Diana, can't wait to take more, though I wish it came with a cable release as the shutter sucks on it, unless you can stay as still as a statue! A flash would be nice also, but i believe this comes with the Diana. not mini version.

Dengue Fever

We saw this band at the Houston Film Festival, where they played over the 1960 movie, The Lost World, it was "amazing!" After the performance, we purchased the album, Venus on Earth, and I've listened to it everyday since then!!!

Hair, a love story, 2004 - present

I use to have long wavy hair, until I met my husband, a hair stylist. You know that itch you get to cut your hair, well when I get that impulse my hair stylist is always quick to snip!!! I love it!!! I've had my fun though and am ready to truly let it grow out, I've instructed my husband to not let me give in, and to help my hair get through the ugly grow out phase!!!! eek!! There was so many more in between, but unfortunately my old laptop crashed along with old photos...

Lately, I feel like we have been busy EVERY weekend. I have been tired during the week also. I just want one weekend to catch up on rest. To stay home and relax. Our weekends, though tiring, have been filled with fun! From birthday in new york, bachelorette parties, halloween, weddings, outings, and now this weekend we are celebrating our 1yr wedding anniversary. I have many pics to post, but for now I will leave you with this one.

Walk / Run

Monster Mash 5k - This was my first 5k, and though I know its only 3 miles, I have never been able to complete 3 miles without stopping, so I registered, didn't train at all, and finished my 3 miles in 35 min. It was fun and I'm ready for the next one, maybe working my way up to a half marathon in a year or so...

I've been wanting to participate in this walk for years, I am so glad
I was finally able to do so!! In memory of:

My First Attempt...Ever

When it comes to baking, I'm usually an "out of the box" type of baker. Last weekend for my good friends bachelorette party, I decided to make vegan cupcakes for her, from scratch. I surprised myself, as the cupcakes and frosting were actually edible. However, this is what the first batch looked like. I'm not sure why the cupcake lining got super stuck to the actual cupcakes!!!??!! I made a flat, pancake like cake with the left over batter, cut them into small squares and called them brownies.

Catholic festivals

Yesterday Hector and I took Luna to a Catholic church fall festival. We enjoyed ourselves, Luna loved the moonwalks and flying chairs. We finished our turkey legs,sausage-on-a-stick, and over priced cup of soda. As we are saying our goodbyes to my family, a very ignorant person walks up to Hec to ask him about his Che tattoo. He asks Hec if he knows how many people he killed, and why he would go to a family event knowing he had Che tattooed on him. He continued to say that it was such an uncatholic thing to do.

Now, I believe everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and freedom of speech. I think that some opinions should be kept to yourself, unless you are open to discussing the other persons opinions. What I don't understand is why a man, takes time away from his family just to come and talk down to us. Taking time away, and sending negative vibes to our afternoon. I also didn't know that people with tattoos were uncatholic and not allowed to attend church functions. I was so upset, I won't post what I responded to him, it wasn't too nice.

We went for Mexican food afterwards, I had a margarita, Hec had a dos equis. We laughed about it, him.

I love this man's arm.
